A magical time of year ... plum fever!

Deep down in my heart is the desire to have my very own hobby farm with an incredible orchard. So it's no doubt that I love to visit the local farms to get fruit/produce whenever possible.  And with all this glorious warmth and sunshine, we have the most delicious italian plums ever!

Don't you just want to eat one!?! I love going to the farm and picking right from the tree.

We also got to picking my favourite honeycrisp apples which are in season now (about a week early). There is something so picturesque eh?

Pumpkins seem to be incubating in the glorious sunshine! I almost bought a few of them but decided that I would be sad if I looked at pumpkins.  Unless I carve pumpkin tikis again like last year.

And this certainly evokes the late summer happiness! Corn! Lots and lots of it! Well I hope you all get out and enjoy the sunshine. Pick some apples or a plum! And remember to support your local farmers!

  1. Those plums are a beautiful color. Plum jam, yummm.

Honeycrisp are favorite apples around here but they are shockingly expensive so reserved for special treats.

Visiting the farm is a lot easier than actually working it according to my husband who grew up on one.

    1. MMM you are right! I should be making some plum jam! that sounds delish! Sometimes I make a plum cake that is also really tasty.

Honeycrisp are the best! I probably shouldn't tell you that they are 79 cents a pound here. I guess thats one benefit of living close to all the apple farms. We are actually so lucky that way. The farms are no more than 5 mins away and they grow pretty much all the fruits and veg. you can think of.

  2. pumpkin tikis!!! OMG...I don't remember them from last year. Did you post about them? You have to do them again and post lots of pictures.

Just to make you want to visit even more I will tell you that Cistus is located on Sauvie Island, which is farm central around here. The corn mazes are probably just getting going but all the produce...so good!I can't leave the island this time of year without Asian pears, so good!

  3. Great post! I love Italian plums and honeycrisp apples! Forgive me oh endless summer guru but I love autumn; the spicy scents, ripe fruits, fields orange with pumpkins, rich colors everywhere... Don't get me wrong, summer is the best but since autumn is inevitable I'll embrace it!

    1. No worries. Autumn is nice... But I distinguish the autumn and the fall. Harvest is another suitable term for me lol. It's just when the wet comes and I'm cold right down to my bones for 6 months that I start having problems.

  4. I sooooooo remember wet to the bone.....the only thing to warm you is a bath or shower! I grew up in the cariboo and have seen 50 below....yes! 50 below.....the buses were not running after 36 below....and I would play outside! The wet lower mainland cold is so bizarre. On a positive note though that farm is great! What is it called? I want to tell my cousin. Do they allow kids to pick?

    1. 50 below!?!?! That's crazy! Luckily we've been super warm this month. Today is the coldest day yet and it will be like 21C.

The farm is willowview I believe. It's down near farmer rd. in abbotsford and has a kids play area, all sorts of farm animals, and a cute store! Kids certainly can pick! It's very fun.
