More before and after fun

I woke up this morning to a feeling of tired and exhaustion I have not felt in a while.  So I went straight to the coffee maker, filled up on some joe, and then decided to get my feet dirty by walking around the garden.  There is a sweet aroma in the air today. The best way to describe it would be sticking your nose in the giant blossom of a Southern Magnolia! Wow! I searched high and low to try and find out where this heavenly scent was coming from with no luck.  After giving up I thought, "dang, where's the inspiration at these days?" So I decided to look back some more. And I stumbled upon a great early years photo of one of the many palms.

Before: Trachycarpus fortunei in early 2007.

After: Now this palm has well over 6ft of trunk and the fronds must be reaching near 12 feet. Sometimes even I forget

Sometimes I forget. I forget just how much things have grown up.  I forget just how far the garden has come. And we are getting to that high time of the year. The time when everything is as full and as rich as it is going to be. Now is the time to enjoy. Now is the time to take your morning joe outside and enjoy the splendour of the great outdoors. There's something sweet in the air today ... and I think I discovered what it is.  It's the fullness of and true height of summer.

  2. That is a nice growth rate on that Trachy...5 years to that magnificence! The scent sounds perfect.

Your point on the "high time of the year" is a good one - ours' is centered on October, and with maybe, hopefully, some rain in a few days into next week, it can really live up to that. Plant shriveling out of control now...more Salvia greggii to water in at their wilting point - am thankful that 92F is it today, and tomorrow our last 90 for several days, or next spring!

    1. I love this time of year in the garden. Some things here shriveled in our weather do I can't even imagine what it would be like for you guys. All the more important to plant appropriately I guess. We are spoiled in that sense. Its nice to hear you are getting a break at least.

  3. I wish we would have planted our Trachy in the ground right away, such a silly thing to put in a container! Your before and after is fabulous. Also, I smelled a similar scent this morning in my garden, these are the golden days, it's been so long since we've had a summer this good!
