Succulent wreaths for the Poplar Market

I've been M.I.A. this last week as I've been doing much prep work for my booth at the Poplar Market this fall. I am really excited to be involved as proceeds from the cost of a booth go to support kids arts programs at North Poplar Elementary. How cool! Parallel 49 has since grown to Parallel 49 Green Design and the creative process is in full swing. One thing that will be featured at my booth are hardy succulent wreaths. I've been making trips all over the valley purchasing air plants, bromeliads, succulents, moss, supplies, etc, and todays venture was to start the wreaths.

Here's a sample photo of what I've been working on...

These large wreath was just planted up and will need several weeks for everything to root and settle into place.

Here's a close up of one of the smaller wreaths.

For now I will be filling all the excess space in the yard with these succulent creations.

  1. Oh my, those are gorgeous Louis! The large succulents look so much better than the small cuttings we typically see. You've distributed the textures and color beautifully too. Those violet tones are just the right accent.

Having given this a try with less than optimal results I know how hard it is to do well. Seeing this post might change my mind about the succulent trend and I might even give it another try. You should sell them all and end up taking orders on top of it.

    1. Thanks, Shirley. I like mixing in some big ones. I tried to mix in as much color while keeping it completely hardy. The one wreath got an echeveria glauca ... I just couldn't resist pushing the limit somehow.

I'm glad if I can make you re-consider. The plan is to get orders going in advance. I put a lot of love into them and hope that people like them. I'm also doing terrariums, tillandsia globe ornaments, and a few other plantings.

  2. Oh, those are just lovely! What a talent you have. I would buy a couple if you were selling those at a market near me.

  3. This is so cool Louis! You've got a great design eye. Do you plan to keep this (Parallel 49 Green Design) going beyond this market? I hope so!

  5. Echoing those who commented above, these wreaths are just wonderful, Louis! I hope your sale day is tremendously successful - it's hard to believe that it could be otherwise.
