Happy Summer!!!

It's summertime officially!! I for one am so VERY excited.  I thought I would share some early summer photos from the yard with everyone now so that I can look back at the end of the season at how things have grown and or been changed - and each year it does in fact change.  Things are still looking a little bit neglected compared to where I am most years.  But hopefully if the sun decides to stick around that will all change! Today is a pressure washing, lawn cutting, nursery visiting day!

The summer Luau's are just around the corner!!! This sign always comes out for a party.  And summer itself is one massive party in the palm garden!!!

Agave parryi has pups!!! That means even more agaves!

See there are a few flowers in the garden.... a few.

My monster chamaerops humilis sure looks happy with some warm sun.  This is the absolute best spot in the garden! It's kind of the place of honor.

And not too much longer to wait till yuccas are blooming...

My new yucca rostrata loving the sunshine! hmm... I think it needs another rostrata friend dont you?

Glorious spikes!

This is about as flowery as I can handle.

I'll leave you with the palms on the first day of summer.  I can't wait to see how much everything grows over the next months.  These palms will happily put on 1.5 feet of trunk!  It's going to be a jungle in no time!!

  2. Thanks! like I said, things really have felt sluggish for me this year with the rainy weather we have had. That being said, the garden sure seems to have filled in more. I used to have all sorts of space for flowers and other annuals but for the first time It feels more complete without them. I know some people would feel lost in all the foliage but I really enjoy it. And as things like the palms grow larger there becomes more spaces near the bases of the trunks for new plantings.

  3. Nice...I think summer means more up there, and it's great how you hang out the Luau sign, visit a nursery, etc. People down here need to celebrate the seasons with gardens and outdoor living more...well, maybe a little earlier here than June 20!

    1. Thanks, I celebrate spring and summer... fall and winter are a different story all together. To me, summer is the season. I really dislike being indoors - It makes me feel highly claustrophobic and I don't think its healthy. So when summer comes, I feel more like myself. I breath easier, I feel lighter, I laugh louder. It's certainly worth celebrating!!! Sadly, my four nursery visits today were bust! Everywhere was a yawn. Ill have to head to Vancouver for the real good stuff.

  4. So glad to see a fellow summer celebrator! Love all the foliage, especially the palms! What is the plant above your monster Chamaerops humilis? I have a feeling you're going to say it's your Schefflera but the foliage just looks so different!

    1. I am so excited for summer! And today felt like legit summer. It was actually warm outside and sunny! It looks like tomorrow will be a repeat of it before the weekend which looks kinda dicy. That plant is my schefflera and I agree it definitely has a bit of a different look to it. The foliage is really large and it has a really delicate look to it. From what I understand these can be somewhat varied in appearance but the tag says schefflera taiwaniana 'Yuan Shan.' I wonder what other scheffleras are in the monrovia collection. Maybe I should look into that. Any ideas?
