Succulent wreath then and now

A few months ago I shared this "before" picture of my succulent wreath that I had just put together.  This was one of those things that I had seen in magazines, blog sites, and decided I needed to make.  That and I had come across some beautiful albeit VERY expensive ones at the nursery....

It took WAY longer for everything to get established than I initially thought it would.  Maybe the cold and rain had something to do with that.  Either way, I was out in the yard the other day and lifted it upright to see how snug everything was and much to my joy, nothing moved or fell out!!  Now the real question is what I'm actually going to do with it.

I can say it looks far superior in the glow of the sunshine.  Everything does.  Today when I was out snapping this picture was the smell and the feel of a summer morning! SUMMER ACTUALLY CAME!

So I have to find a place to hang this.  It has been used as a wreath around candles out in the yard and I will say it looks quite nice that way... but I do indeed think I need to find a place to hang this.

  1. That wreath is nice...and so glad summer arrived. Quite the nice scent one cannot mistake for anything else! Now, think big and unlimited budget, as in a mega wreath with some dwarf palms and bromeliads in it, mounted on a massive blank wall of a corporate headquarters!

  2. thanks! I love the scent of summer. There is nothing like it. Oh an unlimited budget and a huge blank canvas would be AMAZING! I'm a big fan of vertical gardening - especially in urban settings. It would certainly soften the almost eerie evil empire feel of corporate office buildings. I could get on a whole rant but I truly believe that gardening can and should be a source of inspiration and innovation. I actually think all the horrendous commercial landscapes are manifestations of some of the larger problems our societies are facing. Like throwing inspiration/quality/thoughtfulness etc. out the window. I don't want to overstate things, but I think urban gardeners represent a kind of renaissance.

  3. Hi Louis, love your wreath! I linked to you from reading danger garden. It was so nice to see your blog! I am a chilliwack transplant here in San Antonio! You really grow palms in the fraser valley? Seriously? AMAZING! So nice to find your blog - looking forward to reading regularly. Cheers!

    1. Hey! Thats awesome!!! Such a random but small world! I'm in Abbotsford. There are some huge palms here actually. As long as you are sheltered from the winds coming through the flatts then you are good to go with trachycarpus fortunei. So pretty much east of Sumas Road they are a no go without some protection from the wind. You must love all the sunshine down in San Antonio as compared to the Wack. That being said, on a sunny day, driving out to Chilliwack is majestic!!!

  4. I think it would look swell hung on a palm trunk. Get a wide piece of ribbon or thick twine and hang it like an Olympic metal from the top of your tallest palm trunk so it hangs part way down the side. Just an idea...
